Why should you backup Microsoft 365?

Outages can happen - Cyber threats exist

In the Microsoft services agreement, it states clearly that in case of outages or disruptions, Microsoft is not responsible for your data:

In the event of an outage, you may not be able to retrieve Your Content or Data that you’ve stored. We recommend that you regularly backup Your Content and Data that you store on the Services or store using Third-Party Apps and Services.

Microsoft 365 data recovery is limited

Basic data restores are possible but there are instances where they are not:

When data is moved from OneDrive or Sharepoint, all file versioning is lost and previous files are not recoverable.

When user accounts associated with the data are hard-deleted.

When someone manually removes the data from the Recoverable Items folder.
